Publication A primer on partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM)(Sage Publishing, 2022); ; ; The third edition of A Primer on Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) guides readers through learning and mastering the techniques of this approach in clear language. Authors Joseph H. Hair, Jr., G. Tomas M. Hult, Christian Ringle, and Marko Sarstedt use their years of conducting and teaching research to communicate the fundamentals of PLS-SEM in straightforward language to explain the details of this method, with limited emphasis on equations and symbols. A running case study on corporate reputation follows the different steps in this technique so readers can better understand the research applications. Learning objectives, review and critical thinking questions, and key terms help readers cement their knowledge. This edition has been thoroughly updated, featuring the latest version of the popular software package SmartPLS 3. New topics have been added throughout the text, including a thoroughly revised and extended chapter on mediation, recent research on the foundations of PLS-SEM, detailed descriptions of research summarizing the advantages as well as limitations of PLS-SEM, and extended coverage of advanced concepts and methods, such as out-of-sample versus in-sample prediction metrics, higher-order constructs, multigroup analysis, necessary condition analysis, and endogeneity.Publication Type: Book800 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication A Unified treatment of classical probability, thermodynamics, and quantum information theory(2021-09-14)The major goal of these notes is an elaborate presentation of a probabilistic framework. This framework allows a formulation of classical probability theory, thermodynamics, and quantum probability with a common set of four principles or axioms. In particular, it provides a general prognostic algorithm for computing probabilities about future events. Our principles distinguish strictly between possibilities and outcomes. A well-defined possibility space and a sample space of outcomes resolves well-known paradoxes, and make quantum interpretations like ''many worlds`` or ''many minds`` superfluous. In addition, the superposition principle and the entanglement of systems obtain a new meaning from our point of view. This framework offers an axiomatic approach to probability in the sense of Hilbert. He asked for treating probability axiomatically in his sixth of the twenty-three open problems presented to the International Congress of Mathematicians in Paris in 1900. We have applied our framework to various problems, including classical problems, statistical mechanics and thermodynamics, diffraction at multiple slits, light reflection, interferometer, delayed-choice experiments, and Hardy's Paradox. Particular emphasis is also placed on C.F. von Weizs\"acker's work, who developed his ur theory as early as the 1950s. Today, leading researchers continue his work under the name ''Simons Collaboration on Quantum Fields, Gravity, and Information``.Publication Type: Book241 393 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Agroecological engineering interventions for food security and sustainable rural development : the case of rice farming in Kashmir(Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Forschung und Entwicklung der Umwelttechnologien (GFEU) an der Technischen Universität Hamburg e.V., 2021-02-12)The ecological consequences of industrial agriculture and the pace at which the natural resources of soil and water are being exhausted, make a rethink of food systems imperative. Rice being the staple for more than half the world population and a major water consumer crop can play a vital role in this. This work builds the case for agroecological interventions in rice farming to mitigate the negative impacts of the food system on the environment, to attain sustainable development in rural areas. In this regard, the improvements in plant growth parameters and plant health conditions observed under SRIBI (System of Rice Intensification with Beans Intercropping) are reported. Rice iCrop, based on SRIBI, is presented as an alternative rice farming system due to its wide-ranging socioeconomic and ecological benefits.Publication Type: Book1470 1338 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Aiming big with small carsThis book focuses on the small car segment of India's automotive industry to explain the emergence of lead markets. The authors contend that the current understanding of lead markets does not sufficiently explain the business practices that are born out of the intensified globalization of innovation. Lead markets are considered crucial for the global diffusion of new products and this book investigates whether sustainable lead markets can also emerge in developing economies, and if so, under which conditions. The authors question the conventional wisdom and propose updates and extensions to the lead market theory to better reflect the changing ground realities on ground.Publication Type: BookPublisher DOI:10.1007/978-3-319-02066-253 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Algebraic Statistics(2016)Algebraic statistics brings together ideas from algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, and combinatorics to address problems in statistics and its applications. Computer algebra provides powerful tools for the study of algorithms and software. However, these tools are rarely prepared to address statistical challenges and therefore new algebraic results need often be developed. This way of interplay between algebra and statistics fertilizes both disciplines. Algebraic statistics is a relatively new branch of mathematics that developed and changed rapidly over the last ten years. The seminal work in this field was the paper of Diaconis and Sturmfels (1998) introducing the notion of Markov bases for toric statistical models and showing the connection to commutative algebra. Later on, the connection between algebra and statistics spread to a number of different areas including parametric inference, phylogenetic invariants, and algebraic tools for maximum likelihood estimation. These connection were highlighted in the celebrated book "Algebraic Statistics for Computational Biology" of Pachter and Sturmfels (2005) and subsequent publications. In this report, statistical models for discrete data are viewed as solutions of systems of polynomial equations. This allows to treat statistical models for sequence alignment, hidden Markov models, and phylogenetic tree models. These models are connected in the sense that if they are interpreted in the tropical algebra, the famous dynamic programming algorithms (Needleman-Wunsch, Viterbi, and Felsenstein) occur in a natural manner. More generally, if the models are interpreted in a higher dimensional analogue of the tropical algebra, the polytope algebra, parametric versions of these dynamic programming algorithms can be established. Markov bases allow to sample data in a given fibre using Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms. In this way, Markov bases provide a means to increase the sample size and make statistical tests in inferential statistics more reliable. We will calculate Markov bases using Groebner bases in commutative polynomial rings. The manuscript grew out of lectures on algebraic statistics held for Master students of Computer Science at the Hamburg University of Technology. It appears that the first lecture held in the summer term 2008 was the first course of this kind in Germany. The current manuscript is the basis of a four-hour introductory course. The use of computer algebra systems is at the heart of the course. Maple is employed for symbolic computations, Singular for algebraic computations, and R for statistical computations. The monograph "Statistical Computing with R" from Maria L. Rizzi (2007) was an excellent source for implementing the R code in this book. The second and third editions are just streamlined versions of the first one.Publication Type: Book1414 903 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Applied biocatalysis: From fundamental science to industrial applications(2016-08-16); ; ; This reference book originates from the interdisciplinary research cooperation between academia and industry. In three distinct parts, latest results from basic research on stable enzymes are explained and brought into context with possible industrial applications. Downstream processing technology as well as biocatalytic and biotechnological production processes from global players display the enormous potential of biocatalysts. Application of "extreme" reaction conditions (i.e. unconventional, such as high temperature, pressure, and pH value) - biocatalysts are normally used within a well defined process window - leads to novel synthetic effects. Both novel enzyme systems and the synthetic routes in which they can be applied are made accessible to the reader. In addition, the complementary innovative process technology under unconventional conditions is highlighted by latest examples from biotech industry.Publication Type: BookPublisher DOI:10.1002/978352767712292
