Publication A system identification method applied to forced vibrations of pylons with time-dependent mass attachments(2022-08-24); ; ; System identification, either stand-alone or in the context of structural health monitoring (SHM), typically entails extracting information based on the dynamic response of monitored structures. Standard practice utilizes free vibration regimes, recorded during monitoring, to recover the structural key dynamic parameters, i.e., natural frequencies and mode shapes. In this work, we propose a methodology to transform the forced vibration regime, based on Gabor transform, to trace the time evolution of dominant eigenfrequencies of a reference pylon with an additional, time-variable mass attached at the top. The external forcing functions are harmonic ground motions. Two cases are considered, one where the mass decreases to a nearly zero value, starting from a reference value, plus the opposite case where the additional mass increases from zero to the same reference value, which can be substantial, i.e., reaching 20% of the pylon mass. The eigenfrequencies converge at the end of the monitoring time interval, when ground motion ceases, to the standard values computed when the additional mass has a fixed value on the pylon. The methodology presented herein is useful in extracting as much information as possible from dynamic responses and is also of interest in the SHM of typical civil engineering infrastructure ranging from pylons to bridges and buildings.Publication Type: Conference Paper not in Proceedings46 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Type: Conference Paper not in Proceedings55 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Developing a new tele rehabilitation wrist and forearm therapy system with haptic feedbackIn this demo, we would like to introduce a new wrist and forearm tele-rehabilitation system between the patient and the physical therapist. To provide haptic feedback between these two parties, an impedance controller was developed between these two systems. By changing the stiffness and damping coefficients, the quality of communication between these two systems is changed. This is a very useful system for tele- and home rehabilitation. Position, velocity, and torque data from both robots were collected and analyzed to verify that haptic feedback was generated. This data is also stored and sent to the physical therapist.Publication Type: Conference Paper not in Proceedings127 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Developing a VR training environment for fingers rehabilitationThere are many people worldwide suffering from hand im- pairment due to stroke. The inabilities to extend the thumb and fingers are the obstacles that face those patients as they cannot successfully grasp and release objects in their daily lives. Therefore, the ability to regain the motion function of fingers of stroke patients becomes an im- portant research topic. Gamification of VR-based rehabilitation system encourages the patients to actively participate in rehabilitation, which could result in the better recovery of their fingers and ideally comple- ment conventional therapy. This research focuses on combining the VIVE headset, haptic feedback Sense Glove, implementing the software devel- opment of a Game that provides an engaging VR training environment for fingers rehabilitation. The VR game targets Hemiparesis patients who can train to pick and place virtual objects of different shapes and sizes in a virtual environment. The performance of the patients is analyzed by the system such that the most important assessment parameters turned out to be the velocity and acceleration of their hands. A report is dis- played after each level to assess their performance.Publication Type: Conference Paper not in Proceedings466 395 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Development scenarios for drop in and non drop in fuel options(2022-10-20); ;Bullerdiek, Nils; The air transport sector’s contribution to anthropogenic climate forcing is estimated at around 4 %. In this respect, alternative fuels are considered as a key measure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the air transport system and thus to reduce the contribution of commercial aviation to anthropogenic climate change. Nevertheless, so far the usage-shares of alternative fuels are below 1 %. Thus, the goal of this paper is to analyse a broad selection of aviation fuel options for their greenhouse gas reduction potential based and to derive scenarios for their potential future development. The fuel options studied are blended synthetic kerosene and neat synthetic kerosene fuels, three alcohols (methanol, ethanol and butanol) and three gases (methane, ammonia and hydrogen). General socio-economic preconditions and requirements within the air transport system were identified. Key Levers for a successful transition towards renewably sourced energies appear to be the development of aviation's energy demand, the ramp-up of production capacities and the willingness to cover the cost of the energy transition.Publication Type: Conference Paper not in Proceedings83 311 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Generation of realistic smart meter data from prosumers for future energy system senarios(2022-09); ; ; ; ; Future energy systems with high proportion of intermittent and distributed renewable generation need the coupling of the energy sectors electricity, gas and heat into an integrated energy system. In order to achieve supply safety for this novel system, advanced operational concepts will be required. These advanced algorithms, like for example integrated grid state identification and prognosis, require a high amount of data with a high temporal resolution for testing and evaluation. In German electrical energy systems, grid operators rely on the currently ongoing smart meter rollout for the purpose of data acquisition. Nevertheless, these large amounts of data are hard to obtain and are often restricted due to reasons of privacy. Furthermore, this data belongs to the actual grid situation and is therefore not identical to the data expected in future grid scenarios. In this paper, an approach to synthetically generate realistic future smart meter data is proposed. The household technologies and smart meter are modeled with the open-source TransiEnt Library for dynamic modeling of integrated energy systems. Furthermore, the models are tested and evaluated with real smart meter measurement data from different households in Lower Saxony.Publication Type: Conference Paper not in Proceedings56 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
