The Institute of Optical and Electronic Materials at Hamburg University of Technology has its main research focus in silicon photonics, structured optical materials and thermal photonics. In the field of silicon photonics there is extensive experience with integrated structures for light manipulation on chip. The structured optical materials include metamaterial, opals, photonic glasses and nanoporous dielectrics and metals. The thermal photonics and structured optical materials are studied in the frame of DFG Collaborative Research Center (SFB 986) “Tailor-Made Multi-Scale Material Systems – M³”, where the institute director is one of the coordinators.
