Free-electron lasers (FELs) require precise temporal control of ultraviolet (UV) picosecond laser pulses to optimize photocathode performance and electron beam quality [1,2]. At the European XFEL facility, we have implemented this capability through the novel NEPAL (New Photocathode Laser) system [3], which incorporates a high-resolution spatial light modulator (SLM) for advanced pulse shaping [4].
