Wireless sensing in modern society: almost all aspects of modern life rely on information gathered by this technology. Location-based services are generating lots of excitement, traffic safety is enhanced by radar distance sensing, and ubiquitous connectivity is now expected in any handheld device. These are only a few examples showing the wide range of applications. The electronic requirements for modern wireless sensing devices are approximately the same as for communication modules, and so their architectures are often similar. This equivalence will be shown in this article for a modern and relatively unknown receiver concept: the six-port architecture in wireless sensing and communications.
