Tolerance requirements for long combined sheet pile walls. According to EAU 2012 the true positioning of the king piles is the most important precautionary measure against declutching of combined sheet pile walls. Tolerances for combined sheet pile walls are not generally specified and are to be agreed separately for each construction project. Today combined sheet pile walls challenge an increase in water depth and high water pressure respectively. In association with an increase in profile lengths and in loads on the sheet pile locks during installation, the current tolerances and evaluation criteria regarding the installation of the intermediate piles are often insufficient. This article presents the problems described and discusses monitoring measures and possible solutions.
