N2 condensed into nanoporous glass has been investigated by X-ray diffraction and adsorption/filling isotherms. The material in the pores consists of an amorphous layer at the pore walls and quasi-bulk material in the center of the pores. The freezing temperature of the bulk component is reduced. Its structure is hcp down to lowest temperatures with a stacking fault probability as large as 0.3. Thus the transition hcp-Pa3 of the bulk solid is suppressed.
