A simulated annealing approach for delay line optimization is improved and extended to take modulated input signals in back-off operation into account. Envelope simulation in conjunction with CW electron energy distributions are used for efficiency estimation. A Ku-Band helix traveling-wave tube is optimized and results are presented.
