Challenges for leadership in the digital transformation process: An explorative analysis in different company sizes
Technological developments are profoundly changing the world of work. This study analyses the associated challenges for managers in the digital transformation in different company sizes. The mixed-methods approach combines a structured literature analysis with an online survey (n=385) and a focus group workshop. The results identify five topic clusters (strategy, leadership, culture, communication, technology) and show that SMEs place higher demands on managers. Participative leadership and a culture that promotes innovation are crucial for success in the digital era.
