History-dependence and hence the glass transition are prominent characteristics of the material behavior of polymers. It is shown that the holistic model developed by the authors is capable of describing all relevant features of this phenomenon that are experimentally observed in the mechanical properties as well as the coefficient of thermal expansion and the heat capacity.
