Traditionally frames are designed following linear elastic analysis. However to calculate deflections, effects of imposed actions or second order effects the non linear behavior of reinforced concrete has strictly to be taken into account. Already a 1D-modelling of reinforced structures with a combination of the Transfer Matrix Method and the FE-method gives good and stable results. The background of this method, some advantages and problems as well as some examples of calculations will be shown.
