In this thesis, range- and velocity-extended targets are analysed and considered to increase the performance of automotive radar systems. Based on the classical point-target model new signal-processing strategies are developed to avoid ghost targets and to gain additional object specific information. Examples for this additional information are the pedestrian’s step frequency and a lateral velocity component of cars.
