This chapter evaluates the planning development of Hanover, Karlsruhe, Munich and Dortmund and presents the basic features of the planning concepts at city and regional level in order to show which population, spatial, settlement and traffic developments have shaped the past years and what developments can be expected. From the findings of science and research as well as the experiences of the municipalities or regions this article draws conclusions, which measures and concepts can be recommended.
