There is a growing interest in the multidimensional and interorganizational concept of sustainability and its application in the field of supply chain management. Insufficient resources, increasing globalization, multifaceted customers’ expectations, and other societal pressure from consumer advocacy groups and non-governmental organizations regarding issues related to human rights, health, and safety at the workplace are some of the influencing factors behind the recent rising focus on sustainability in supply chain management (Ashby et al., 2012; Carter & Rogers, 2008; Paulraj et al., 2015; Saeed et al., 2017). Moreover, organizations are not only considered responsible for the ecological and social consequences of their own operations but also for their supply chain partners (Caniato et al., 2012; Pagell & Shevchenko, 2014).
