In this thesis the potential of various technological approaches to reduce fuel consumption and emissions during the landing and take-off cycle at airports are assessed at a system-level. In order to compare their potential for a future air transportation system a model has been developed that captures the inter-dependencies of different variables. These include future air traffic growth and fleet composition, airport capacities as well as process times in the landing and take-off cycle. Potential fuel savings and emission reduction for different scenarios are quantified and technology combinations to maximize the benefit are derived.
