In this presentation, hydrogen production from biomass using dark fermentation was presented. In particular, it was shown that dark fermentation is not suitable as a stand-alone process for hydrogen production, but rather must be embedded in the context of a biorefinery in order to be competitive from an economic and ecological point of view. It also addressed the outstanding issues regarding a classification of the hydrogen produced in this way as climate-neutral.
