This work proposes a new approach to calibrate six-port displacement sensors without the use of calibration standards or well-known target positions. The detectors' nonlinearities can be also compensated in this one-step cali-bration. An implicit equation of a so-called squircle is used to approximate measured I/Q data of arbitrary and unknown target positions. It is demonstrated with measurement data, that the squircle is a suitable model to describe errors caused by power imbalance, crosstalk or parasitic reflections as well as detector nonlinearities.
