Lubricating film mechanisms in internal combustion engines are crucial for the behavior of the tribological system conrod-piston-liner. The study at hand uses LED-induced fluorescence method and focuses on the oil behavior at liner and piston of a large bore engine as well as in the piston pin plain bearing of a passenger car engine. The aim of this research is to improve the understanding of the oil mechanisms through the temporal and spatial analysis of the oil layers present at tribological components of the engine. The statements obtained by these results are to contribute to the optimization of the piston assembly in terms of friction, wear and oil emission.
