Manufacturers of configurable products must efficiently align demand volumes and capacities despite high product variety. This thesis introduces an optimization model for targeted product mix control under capacity constraints. Economic objectives and sales risks are considered simultaneously. A context-sensitive distance measure (“cpDist”) quantifies the market attractiveness of alternative configurations. This enables the anticipation of customer substitution behaviour within production planning.
