This study describes the conduction and analysis of a measurement project performed onboard a state-of-the-art RoPax ferry. Detailed figures are presented regarding the operating profile and the fuel consumption of the entire vessel. The energy balance and exhaust gas emissions of main and auxiliary engines are evaluated under real operating conditions. Based on the results of the measurements, suggestions to increase the energy efficiency and environmental performance of the vessel are developed. The study also provides a brief insight into the area of system simulations as part of the European research project JOULES.
