Elastomer parts are generally produced by casting or pressing. Nevertheless machining semifinished parts with defined cutting edge is a feasible alternative method of production, which under certain conditions is both economically and technically advantageous. This research provides basic knowledge of the cutting behaviour of elastomer foams and shows technical and economical possibilities and limitations of a production by chipping.
