This article examines data sovereignty as a cross-cutting issue in librarianship from the perspective of subject-specialist work. Using selected examples from the areas of acquisitions, cataloging, and research-related services, it highlights various challenges and limitations of data sovereignty in library practice. Against this backdrop, data sovereignty is understood as a regulatory ideal and an ongoing developmental task within library work.
