This paper sets forth the linear theory of boundary induced vibration of an extensible, sagging cable. A dynamic stiffness matrix is derived whose coefficients are functions of the frequeny of motion, and which is suitable for dynamic direct-stiffness analysis of complex systems. The study considers motion within the cable plane only. Viscous damping is taken into account.
