Based on potential theory stationary and transient propeller flows are analyzed. The developed general purpose panel method is described in detail and validated for ship propellers. A new method is generated for the prediction of tip vortex cavitation inception. The results are compared to measurements in homogeneous and inhomogeneous wake fields. Further the transient hydroelastic behavior of a propeller in an unsteady ship wake is simulated via an implicit coupling to a inite-element method. Different coupling approaches are analyzed and the influencing parameters of the elastic effects are assessed.
