The primary causes for the air transport system’s climate forcing are contrails, carbon dioxide emissions, and nitrogen oxide emissions. Lowering the content of aromatics contained in kerosene can significantly reduce contrail-related climate forcing, while kerosene from renewable sources of energy is essential to mitigate aviation’s carbon dioxide-related climate forcing.
