The problems of future energy systems with a high share of fluctuating renewable energies should not be underestimated. The difference between supply and demand for electrical energy has so far been covered by a high power reserve, which will not longer be possible in Germany after the coal and nuclear power plants are shut down in the next few years. In the following article, the concept of resilience will be explained in principle and the applicability of a resilience index will be discussed on the basis of an exemplary integrated energy system. Such an index is a possible method for quantifying the resilience of an energy system. In addition to the CO₂ emissions caused and the costs, the index is an additional criterion for evaluating energy system architectures."
