Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, a still very young field with a rapidly growing importance, is devoted to developed bioartificial constructs or tissues (skin, blood vessels, bone and cartilage replacement, muscle, nerves, liver replacement system, etc.) from living cells or cell matrix and biomaterials. It is based on an interdisciplinary collaboration between the areas of cell biology, biomaterial development, cell culture technology and bioprocess engineering, and opens up diverse new fields of application in the clinic or in diagnostics. For example, tissue defects will be repaired with cultured autologous cells. Furthermore, tissue engineering allows for new approaches in in vitro diagnostic systems for the diagnosis and testing or setting of medications.
Within the framework of the annual lecture series, well-respected speakers discuss the essential aspects of new developments.
• Application of stem cells
• Electronic implants
• Cosmetic substance testing
• Degradable magnesium implants
• Vascularization strategies for tissue engineering in vitro / in vivo
• Image Guidance, Robotics and Navigation
• Cancer stem cells
• Magnetic Particle Imaging
• Bone quality
• Microsystem technology in medicine

The lecture series is organized by TUHH in cooperation with the "Forschungszentrum für Medizintechnik Hamburg" (FMTHH).
The text contributions were selected from the student works for the winter term 2016/17.
