This study evaluates granular ferric hydroxide (GFH) for Se oxyanion removal under varying water chemistries. GFH showed higher removal efficiency for Se(IV) (99.31 %) than Se(VI) (88.41 %), with minimal iron dissolution, indicating that performance differences arise from distinct Se–GFH interaction mechanisms. Se(IV) adsorption followed pseudo‐first‐order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm, whereas Se(VI) was better described by pseudo‐second‐order kinetics and the Freundlich model. Sulfate and silicate exhibited a stronger inhibitory effect on Se(VI) removal than on Se(IV), highlighting challenges in treating selenate‐contaminated waters. These findings improve understanding of Se oxyanion adsorption on GFH and support its application in drinking water treatment.en0083-6915Vom Wasser202625355WileyTechnology::620: EngineeringAdsorption behavior of Selenium oxyanions on granular ferric hydroxide in sources of drinking waterJournal Article10.1002/vomw.202600010
