Hence, the severity of pitting corrosion and the random shapes of corrosion pits may affect the remaining life of the ballast tank. Therefore, this paper presents the difference in surface morphologies of corroded ballast tank and its correlation to the geometry of corrosion pits. These morphologies are related to the corrosion pit depth, which is obtained with a 3D laser scan. Furthermore, pit depth distributions are analyzed with some statistical parameters at different volumetric changes. As a result, the difference in pitting severity on several volumetric changes is associated with the corrosion pit geometry. The larger volumetric changes, the lower pitting severity, and thus the corrosion pits become a less sharp form or shallower corrosion pits.en0029-8018Ocean engineering2021Pit depth distributionPit geometryPitting severityStatistical analysisSurface morphologyProbability analysis of PIT distribution on corroded ballast tankJournal Article10.1016/j.oceaneng.2021.108958Journal Article
