The graphical model describes the product architecture at component and interface level. The MIG is a visual modeling tool used within the Integrated PKT Approach for Developing Modular Product Families. It combines a spatial representation of the product with information about its components, interfaces, connections and flows. By integrating the architectures of multiple product variants into a common representation, the MIG makes commonalities, differences, and dependencies within a product family visible. It thereby supports the analysis of product variety and the identification of suitable module boundaries and standardized interfaces. Using the notation documented in the included legend, the MIG distinguishes between standard (white), variant (grey) and optional (dotted line) components as well as interfaces. In this dataset, different line colors represent structural, electrical, information, mechanical power, dirt, pneumatic, and hydraulic flows. Line thickness, line type, and line endings provide additional information about components and interfaces, optional elements, fixed connections, and directed flows. The comparison of the two design states illustrates how DfV affects the product architecture. The dataset is used as an example in research and teaching on modular product families, product architecture, modularization and variant management.
