In practice the suitability of the deep vibration compaction for the present ground conditions and the necessary grid density are mostly chosen with respect to the experience of the engineer. This is sufficient in many cases but sometimes leads to problems during the construction work. Classical finite element method is not able to simulate this boundary value problem due to large mesh distortions. Therefore, in this contribution the deep vibration compaction process is simulated using a Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian approach to overcome these limitations. The influence of the deep vibration compaction on the surrounding soil is investigated with respect to the main parameters frequency and vibration amplitude to gain deeper insight into the mechanisms that occur during the compaction process.enCoupled Eulerian-LagrangianDeep vibration compactionPlastodynamicsSoil mechanicsEngineeringCivil Engineering, Environmental EngineeringBuilding, ConstructionCoupled Eulerian-Lagrangian simulation of the deep vibration compaction process as a plastodynamic problemConference PaperConference Paper
