However, MSW generated in the city is openly disposed. This dissertation aims to assess the environmental sustainability and compare GHG mitigation potential of different landfill approaches such as open dumps, sanitary landfills with post-aeration, anaerobic bioreactor landfills and bioreactor landfills with post aeration in the specific climate and MSW composition in Karachi. Results of this dissertation are based on lab-scale investigations conducted by simulating landfill conditions.
