At this point, an adequate knowledge management is decisive for success. The Activity Based Modeling Technique has been developed to depict interactions and iterations in the product development process and to identify needs for action in order to methodically support processes via knowledge management. In this paper it is shown that this technique can also be successfully applied in the early stages to open up potential for optimization. Research for the paper is drawn from observing the processes of Porsche AG’s modular kit development which are characterized by a need for coordination and documentation. Using the Activity Based Modeling Technique, these processes have been analyzed on basis of the system triple approach and the identified needs for action were implemented.
