He was a Fulbright Scholar at the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA in 2006/2007. He holds B. Sc. Honours in Mechanical Engineering, University of Zimbabwe, 1986 and worked for 5 years as a mechanical engineer for the National Railways of Zimbabwe. He has a Masters in Operations Management and Manufacturing Systems, University of Nottingham, 1991 after which he joined the University of Zimbabwe as a lecturer. He has a Doctor of Engineering degree, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology, Japan 2004. His research activities and interests are in sustainable engineering, energy systems, life cycle assessment and bio-energy/fuel feasibility and sustainability. He has published one book, 6 book chapters and more than 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
