Der Nutzer digitaler Bibliotheken spielt als „information player“ mit Datenbanken und Suchbegriffen, um seine Rechercheergebnisse zu verbessern. Fachspezifisch orientierte Forschungsfelder – u. a. auch die Notwendigkeit eines Blicks in die Geschichte wissenschaftlicher Information und Kommunikation – dienen als Anregungen für Forschungs- und Ausbildungsthemen im Informations- und Bibliotheksbereich, deren Ziel letztendlich professionelle Informationskompetenz ist.The term 'in-formation' implies a close link between information literacy and learning.
