In order to tap the full economic potential of modular design, the constraints relating to modular equipment should be considered early on in the design process. However, aspects of modular design of equipment are not supported by established conceptual design tools and methodologies. Therefore, optimization-based conceptual design methodology for distillation columns is extended to include these aspects. A superstructure model and a solution strategy are presented to solve such design problems with high computational efficiency and robustness.enConceptual designDistillationModularizationOptimizationTechnology::600: TechnologyModular equipment design in optimization-based process synthesisConference Paper10.1016/B978-0-444-59519-5.50104-0Conference Paper
