In the project Peregrine wave groups are to be excited on irregular wave carrier. As medium deep water with surface water waves is considered. The work is both experimental and numerical. Water wave flumes at Technische Universitat Hamburg and computational facilities and methods are available. The aim of the project is to reach an improved understanding of the excitability of Peregrine breather type water waves on irregular background and a statistical characterisation of their excitability.
