    Strategische Entwicklung modularer Produktfamilien - Methoden und Validierung
    Modularisierung ist eine Schlüsselstrategie, mit der sich sowohl innovative Produktideen als auch neue individuelle Kundenanforderungen in bestehende Produktportfolios integrieren lassen. Aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse umschließen ein breites Themenfeld von der Auswirkung der Modularisierung bis zur Anwendung in Forschungsprojekten, Einbindung von Nutzern in die Entwicklung, sowie Adressierung von spezifischen Unternehmenszielgrößen. Gleichzeitig müssen diese methodischen Ansätze einer situationsgerechten Methodenvalidierung standhalten, die in der Grundlagenforschung am Institut untersucht wird.

    Product family engineering along the life cycle – research aspects to cope with variability in advanced systems
    (Cambridge University Press (CUP), 2024-10-31) ; ; ;
    The evolutionary development of advanced systems (AS) leads to a necessary rethinking of how they can be supported methodically and in terms of processes in product development. Advanced systems engineering (ASE) offers a novel and holistically adaptive approach to facing such challenges in a structured way. However, many of the ASE use cases relate to the development of systems as products, product networks or individual projects. The additional consideration of entire modular product families within AS offers a further decisive advantage for companies, organisations and the people in ASE. By considering modular product families along the entire life cycle in a product family engineering (PFE), the approaches of ASE can bring their impact and potential to additional system levels occurring when considering product families. The systems, which become complex through variety and collaboration, are broken down into their system elements in a structured way and prepared for a common interdisciplinary understanding, as conveyed by ASE. In this paper, the PFE is presented in excerpts using examples of various aspects and points in time of the product’s life as a complementary approach for ASE.

    Supporting modular product family representations by methodically utilising meta-models
    (Cambridge University Press (CUP), 2024-05) ; ; ;
    Due to the rising multidisciplinarity and connectivity of products especially modular product families, a sophisticated handling of the information is crucial for reducing complexity during the development. System modelling techniques have evolved to assist engineers with managing information. However, nowadays, it is rarely focusing on modular product families. This paper introduces a meta-model based on an ontology, which improves the creation and management of modular product family and its occurring data. The meta-model is presented using the example of a Passenger Service Unit (PSU).

    Transparency by mapping of solution variety in modular mechatronic systems architecture
    (Gesellschaft für Systems Engineering (GfSE), 2023-11) ; ; ;
    Geiger, Daniel
    ;
    In the development of mechatronic modular systems, many interactions and concept alternatives must be considered. Part of these concept alternatives are ideas and solution concepts elaborated in various specialist areas (disciplines) and departments (domains), which realize a product's requirements and the customers' properties in the best possible way. To control these solution ideas in their variety- and due to the mechatronic system design, collaboration-induced complexity, it is necessary to create a correspondingly transparent image of the architecture. In this way, a common system understanding of these technical solutions' reasons, origins, and intended effects is developed and mapped. This paper presents the structure of such a system architecture in the context of modular development at TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen SE + Co KG and its transparency-increasing effect of a variety- and collaboration-oriented architecture. The article focuses on creating and using such an architecture for improved common system understanding.

    Enhancing Collaborative Modular Product Development: Interface Allocation and Associated Responsibilities
    For meeting the dynamic demands of customers on a product, development increasingly relies on expertise from a diverse array of disciplines and domains. Only this collaboration makes it possible to provide comprehensive and practical approaches to solutions for various challenges. However, in addition to variety-induced complexity, this adds complexity due to increased collaboration. Particularly in developing modular product families, this circumstance leads to an expanded consideration of collaboration in subsystems, enabling effective product-family-system development. Collaboration in modular product families leads to a necessary integration of the consideration of interfaces' dependencies, responsibilities, and specifications. This paper presents an approach to identify and manage interface responsibilities in multi-disciplinary modular product-family systems using product and organization view matrices. Results from previous studies are put into a processual context to coordinate the collaboration considered. A matrix-based solution on product and allocated organizational elements improves collaboration.

    Zielgerichtete Gestaltung modularer Maschinen-Architekturen: Ermöglichen digitaler Fabriken durch die Entwicklung digitalfähiger Systeme
    A digital factory is a good approach for optimizing value streams. Various aspects contribute to the design of digital factories - on the process side and on the product/system side. This ranges from machining centers to autonomous transport systems. Each of these products/systems must have a corresponding architecture that facilitates integration. Therefore, the system architecture design should not be neglected and is an essential part of the development process. With the methodical development of modular architectures, products/ systems are supported in their integration into digital factories. This article shows how the Integrated PKT-Approach for Developing Modular Product Families enables this.
