Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , A model-based approach for variety-oriented interface design in modular product familiesThis paper addresses the challenge of managing internal variety in modular product families by explicitly considering interfaces as a central design variable. While existing product development and modularization approaches primarily focus on components, functions, or their interactions, the variety of interfaces is often neglected, despite its significant contribution to internal complexity without increasing customer value. To overcome this limitation, the paper proposes a structured and methodical approach for variety-oriented interface design that integrates interface variety into the product development process. The approach comprises three main steps: the definition of objectives and systematic capture of the current state, the identification and analysis of relevant interfaces based on defined evaluation criteria, and the targeted design of variant-oriented interfaces. Furthermore, a model-based representation is introduced to enable consistent documentation, visualization, and evaluation of interfaces and their interdependencies. This supports transparency in decision-making and facilitates the comparison of alternative interface designs.Publicationtype: Conference Paper6 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Enhancing Collaborative Modular Product Development: Interface Allocation and Associated ResponsibilitiesFor meeting the dynamic demands of customers on a product, development increasingly relies on expertise from a diverse array of disciplines and domains. Only this collaboration makes it possible to provide comprehensive and practical approaches to solutions for various challenges. However, in addition to variety-induced complexity, this adds complexity due to increased collaboration. Particularly in developing modular product families, this circumstance leads to an expanded consideration of collaboration in subsystems, enabling effective product-family-system development. Collaboration in modular product families leads to a necessary integration of the consideration of interfaces' dependencies, responsibilities, and specifications. This paper presents an approach to identify and manage interface responsibilities in multi-disciplinary modular product-family systems using product and organization view matrices. Results from previous studies are put into a processual context to coordinate the collaboration considered. A matrix-based solution on product and allocated organizational elements improves collaboration.Publicationtype: Conference Paper13 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Access status: without files , Zielgerichtete Gestaltung modularer Maschinen-Architekturen: Ermöglichen digitaler Fabriken durch die Entwicklung digitalfähiger SystemeA digital factory is a good approach for optimizing value streams. Various aspects contribute to the design of digital factories - on the process side and on the product/system side. This ranges from machining centers to autonomous transport systems. Each of these products/systems must have a corresponding architecture that facilitates integration. Therefore, the system architecture design should not be neglected and is an essential part of the development process. With the methodical development of modular architectures, products/ systems are supported in their integration into digital factories. This article shows how the Integrated PKT-Approach for Developing Modular Product Families enables this.Publicationtype: Journal Article35
