The wearIT@work project, financed by the European Union, aims at facilitating real-life industrial deployment of wearable technology. The project worth €23.7 million and is the largest civilian wearable-computing effort worldwide. The project is organized around four pilot applications including aircraft maintenance, car production, healthcare, and emergency response that drives the user-centered approach. The pilot includes a large application includes a large application partner including the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), Volkswagen's Š Auto Division, an Austrian hospital operator (G ESPAG), and the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP). The project is supplemented by various low-level software toolboxes including the wearable User Interface Toolbox, the Communication Service Module for seamless communication access, and the Context Recognition Network for simple implementation of a distributed context-recognition application.
