In the product development process the validation is a core activity in order to certify the function of the system in development. In test bench setups for validation purposes the modelling of interactions of the system in development and adjacent systems in real world

This contribution aims on the introduction of Adjustable Impedance Elements and their development approach. Adjustable Impedance Elements serve as an mechanical interface between test bench and the system under development. Adjustable Impedance Elements consist of a stiffness and a damping mechanism, which can be adjusted, independently in their properties. With Adjustable Impedance Elements the dynamic behavior of a test bench setup can be adjusted quickly, which leads to a reduction in the amount of work involved in testing and validation. Basic functional principles of Adjustable Impedance Elements as well as their contribution on the domains, aircraft interior testing and power tool validation, are presented.
