The triethanolamine-mediated enzymatic carboxylation of resorcinol was investigated, where CO2 is used as resource. The reaction system was characterized and different strategies to improve reaction yields tested. In this work, a process was established and characterized to produce 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid in a purity of over 99.8%. This was enabled by the application of a suitable adsorbent for in situ product removal. Furthermore, the CO2 gassing was optimized with microbubble gassing, which improved the mass transfer, CO2 utilization and reduced foam formation. The gained insights into the amine-based enzymatic carboxylation helps to promote this process for industrial application.
