The present Paper deals with the calculation of wave-induced motions and vertical loads on floating structures. An introduction into dynamics of floating structures, the derivation, and the results of the equation of rigid body motions are presented. Based on them three categories for the load calculation are defined. The higher the category, the higher the complexity. Floating structures experiencing only slightly forced oscillation are summarised within category A. They may be situated in calm water or be unsusceptible for forced oscillation thanks to their geometry and mass configuration. Category B is val id fr floating structures that are subject to forced oscillation and have an elongated form. A method for motion and load calculation is described. In addition, an approach for the transfer of venical wave-induced loads to a statie struclural analysis is also presented. Floating structures which do nol belang neither to category A nor to B are classified within category C. They have to be computed by appropriate software.
