This dissertation presents the development of a robot-based inspection system for crack detection in aircraft engine components. The selected inspection technology is white light interferometry. Due to the sensor’s small measuring volume and the aircraft components’ damaged states, the robot path planning is very challenging. The novel method consists of two different stages, a model-based path planning approach which makes use of the components’ rotational symmetry and a subsequent path adaptation.
