With the increasing emphasis on competence orientation in education, designing learn-ing scenarios that effectively promote competence acquisition has become crucial. While the construction of learning tasks is extensively explored in school contexts, uni-versity-level engagement with learning tasks remains limited. Learning tasks hold con-siderable potential to enhance learning and competence development, particularly in online self-study courses; however, this potential is not yet fully realized in higher edu-cation. This article examines four key aspects relevant to leveraging learning tasks: learning goal orientation, didactic functions supporting the learning process, infor-mation processing functions, and a general didactic category system. By synthesizing insights from school-based discussions, the article aims to raise awareness among uni-versity teaching staff about the significance of learning tasks and to encourage their purposeful design to foster competence acquisition.
