On airplane engine HPT (high pressure turbine) parts made out of the nickel-based alloys such as CMSX-4 and Mar-M 002, mesh structures out of Inconel 625 are applied by laser cladding. For the cladding process a continuous wave (cw) Ytterbium fiber laser (IPG YLR-200) is used with a wavelength of λ = 1080 nm and a max. laser power output of P = 250 W. Due to the track width to be achieved the laser beam is defocused to a spot diameter of 280 μm. The powder additive material Inconel 625 is fed into the interaction zone by a continuous coaxial powder feeding nozzle. After metallurgical examination of the clad layers a sound fusion bond is achieved between the clad layers and the substrate material.
