The digitalization of the work processes a variety of challenges for vocational education and training and therefore for learning. The developments in digitalization, which are currently being discussed under the buzzwords Industry 4.0/Economy 4.0/Vocational Education 4.0 and increasingly also under Artificial Intelligence (AI), are changing technologies, products, organizational processes and ultimately the very specific vocational work tasks through to vocational learning processes. The consequences for vocational education and training, from the design of occupational profiles and the use of modified assistance systems to the implementation of new (digital) learning spaces (Learning Factories 4.0), are discussed in the article. The challenges and opportunities for vocational education and training are highlighted using the example of vocational learning factories in Baden-Württemberg.
