In the present work a close and unsteady coupling procedure between a RANS-method and a potential-flow method is developed. The work is motivated by the large computational effort for unsteady viscous-flow simulations using geometrically resolved propellers. By combining the two methods for the simulation of the operating propeller in the ship's wake, the analysis of the dynamics of ships and operating propellers in seaways becomes possible. Inside the coupling the RANS-method is used to compute the inflow conditions, while the inviscid-flow method is used to determine the propeller forces.
