In order to live up to the increasing complexity of the product range they are offering, many companies nowadays use restructured product architectures in the form of product kits or platforms. However, this strategy increases the risk of wrong decisions during product engineering significantly since uncertainties regarding the fulfillment of customer requirements rise over the long life cycle of product architectures. At the same time, the scope of changes increases due to the high number of variants which are to be adapted. The goal is to reduce the risk mentioned through suitable methods of foresight and to consider the anticipated dynamics during the early stage of product architecture development.
