This work comprises the development and establishment of a bio-based process for generation of
volatile and medium chain organic acids starting from biomass hydrolysates. Here, the fermentation
was coupled with an in-situ electrodialysis in order to remove the produced acids from the
fermentation. Additionally, a platform technology based on lactic acid was developed that a variety
of biomass hydrolysates can be used as substrates. Therefore, defined co-culture of two anaerobic
bacteria was investigated.
